When you were in school, did you receive a career map to where you are now? Most likely, the answer would be no. Bet it would have been beneficial as you navigated down the road to your first employment opportunity.

For most of us, we never had received such a map. We received promises from our schoolteachers that we can grow up to be anything we wanted to be. Nevertheless, if you did obtain a map, most likely, it was drawn in crayon and never detailed the roadblocks that we may face along the way. Nor would it shine upon the opportunities that could be created.

A career map is often termed a career development plan. A plan created by you, and often in
conjunction with your employer for your goal setting and achieving opportunities. Think about what future opportunities we come across in life but fail to see them as such—often resulting in just ignoring the “knocking on the door.” What if we could have seen those opportunities and advance further on them? Where would we be now?

This presentation will look at creating measurable goals, known as SMART goals. These goals can be used to help you establish and redefine your current and further career potential.
